World Intellectual Property Organization is currently considering two major copyright related agenda items.
- Broadcast: The Committee is finalizing a treaty to require exclusive rights in program carrying signals. The US signaled in the last round that it was prepared to work toward a compromise position. Public interest groups have criticized the proposal in part for deficient limitations and exceptions provisions that would privilege broadcast rights over copyright. 聽聽聽
- Limitations and Exceptions: The Committee is embarking on a one year series of regional meetings (April - July) and an international conference (October) to consider work toward an 鈥渋nternational legal instrument or instruments (whether model law, joint recommendation, treaty and/or other forms)鈥 to promote the needs of education, research, libraries, museums, archives and for people with disabilities other than vision impairments. WO/GA/41/14.
In this live and recorded session, regular observers of the SCCR will report on the state of each agenda in the SSCR, with a particular focus on the limitations and exceptions agendas. A roundtable discussion will follow.
The event is open to press and the public and a video recording will be made for live and archived viewing. RSVP is required at the link above.
